About me

Table tennis is part of who I am, and now it can be part of your life too.

My name is Georgina Póta. I’m a five-time Olympian and two-time European Champion table tennis player, head of coaching at Póta PingPong, and the mother of a six-year-old girl. I’ve been playing competitively for more than 30 years. Table tennis has become much more than my profession – it’s deeply woven into my life and my passion, and it has become part of my family’s life too.

Where ping pong is for everyone

We created Póta PingPong to give Budapest a place where everyone can enjoy table tennis, whatever their age or level. Here you can train hard and seriously, enjoy a relaxed, fun match with friends, or simply recharge after a long, tiring day. My goal is to create a sports venue where people feel inspired to play the moment they walk through the door – a friendly, inspiring place that keeps everyone smiling while they play.

I believe success doesn’t come down to talent alone, but also to our surroundings and many other details. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far. Here are some of my highlights:

  • Five-time Olympian (Beijing, London, Rio, Tokyo, Paris)
  • Two-time European Champion
  • Champions League winner
  • Highest world ranking: 14th in singles
  • Twelve-time Hungarian Table Tennis Player of the Year
  • 11 years in the German Table Tennis Bundesliga

International experience, right here in Zugló

My journey began at the age of five, when I joined the legendary Statisztika PSC. That’s where I learned to play at the highest level, and I’ve maintained that standard ever since. I’m still an active competitor, playing in the Greek top division and for Erdért SE in Hungary. Through international tournaments, I learned how to adapt to the many challenges of table tennis, especially against defensive players and opponents using pimpled rubbers.

As head of coaching at Póta PingPong, I want to pass on all my experience and dedication. My aim is to make our venue a premium sports centre where a professional training environment meets high-quality entertainment and fun. I’m responsible for every aspect of the playing area, from the joint-friendly flooring to the perfect lighting, so that Póta PingPong can deliver the high standard of play I believe in.

The values of table tennis

What means more to me than any medal is the community and the experiences this fantastic sport has given me. Table tennis develops concentration, speed, rhythm and stamina all at once. It teaches patience, respect and values that stay with you at the table and in everyday life. And perhaps most importantly, it builds bridges between people, creates new friendships and puts smiles on faces.
